SL Council Wants County To Deny Rezoning Request

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The city of Spirit Lake wants Dickinson county to deny a request to rezone some property west of the fairgrounds from light industrial to residential.

Two property owners in that area have requested the rezoning.

The city wants to eventually annex that land into city limits and has already identified it for use for industrial purposes in its long term comprehensive plan.

Based on that, the council voted Tuesday to back up a recommendation from the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission requesting the county deny the rezoning request.

The board of supervisors will hold a hearing on the matter at their April 8th meeting.

The council also Tuesday approved a joint agreement with the county for the East Okoboji Beach Urban Renewal plan which is being amended to improve some roads in that area and to carry out some low impact development projects, along with drainage improvements.

The Spirit Lake city council also Tuesday set May 5th and 6th as dates for the city’s annual clean-up days.
