(Spirit Lake)– Developers of residential subdivisions in Spirit Lake may soon be required to meet tougher standards for managing storm water.
The city council Tuesday agreed with language in a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation for the proposed new standards. Proposed plats and subdivisions would have to comply with statewide urban design and specifications (SUDAS) and would have to manage water quality volume of 1.25 inches by an infiltration process in accordance with the Iowa Stormwater Management Manual.
Another revision states that whenever the impervious surface exceeds 70 percent of the lot size, the property owner would also have to comply with the SUDAS standards.
The proposed revisions will be published and a date will be set for a public hearing.
