(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday denied a request for funding from the Dickinson County Trails Board.
The board was requesting 40,379-dollars a year over five years from the city. The council was given the option of making smaller payments over additional years.
But councilmen Kevin Bice and Jerry Harbst say they feel the city has already done its part by helping fund the spine trail and by solely funding and maintaining branch trails in the city. They say it makes no sense for the city to be financing a trail extension that’s outside city limits. Bice says the money can be better spent on projects within the city.
