(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday began the process of modifying ordinances dealing with storm water retention and architectural standards.
The council held the first of what will be three public hearings on each proposed revision, saying they want to make sure the public has a thorough chance to give input.
The first requires property owners with lots that have more than 70 percent of their surface covered with an impervious material to meet storm water runoff standards. Lots already over the threshold would be grandfathered.
Another proposed ordinance would make the provision apply to all new subdivisions in the city.
The council is also tweaking the city’s architectural standards ordinance, saying they want to make it less ambiguous and not as restrictive.
A second public hearing on the proposed changes will be held at the council’s next regular meeting October 23rd.
The council also awarded a bid of 33,911-dollars from Beck Excavating of Spirit Lake for the East Center Lake Drainage Overflow project. The bid came in below the engineer’s estimate of 34,650-dollars.
