SL Council Approves Sidwalk Cafe Applications

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– The Spirit Lake city council Tuesday unanimously approved applications for sidewalk cafes for The Market and Fresh Bistro, that include outdoor service areas allowing beer and wine to be served.

Ann McCormick of The Market told the council the sidewalk cafes will further compliment the downtown area.

Establishments must meet strict criteria spelled out in state and city code in order to have outdoor service areas. One of those is a requirement that a restaurant service be operated out of the business for atleast 60 percent of the hours the business is open to the public and that meals be prepared on site.

The council also amended city code, removing a requirement for fencing around sidewalk cafes.
