(Spirit Lake)– Yet another upgrade of Spirit Lake’s water treatment plant is in the works.
The city council Tuesday approved an engineering and design agreement for the project with the Howard R. Green firm of Sioux Falls. Mark Hardie of Howard R. Green told the council this project will increase capacity of the plant from 1,100 gallons per minute to 2,200 gallons per minute. That compares to previous upgrades that dealt with water quality.
Hardie says the project will include a new building addition to house some new equipment and would make modifications to the raw water pumping station, or the pump house on Big Spirit Lake.
While an estimated cost for the project wasn’t mentioned at Tuesday’s meeting, the engineering portion of the project totals 425,000-dollars.
A bidletting on the project is tentatively scheduled for March 25th, 2008.
The project hinges on approval from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Hardie says based on population estimates, the expanded plant should be able to serve the city the next 20 years.
