(Spirit Lake)– Employees for the city of Spirit Lake will be getting a three percent cost-of-living wage increase effective this coming July 1st.
The city council Tuesday unanimously approved the increase, which has already been factored into the current budget.
In other business, they tabled plans for a rain garden on a small piece of city-owned land near Kabel’s Trading Post on the northwest side of East Lake Okoboji, saying they want some public input before taking any action.
The council also voted to support the concept of forming a group of representatives from the cities and Dickinson county to explore the possibility of adopting uniform rules to control erosion and sediment. Steve Anderson, Coordinator of the Iowa Great Lakes Cleanwater Alliance, says the effort will likely be coordinated by the Dickinson COunty Soil and Water Conservation District through a 28E agreement. Anderson says erosion knows geographical boundaries, and that trying to get a handle on it is next to impossible without some type of uniform rules. Anderson says he’s been getting a positive response from the entities he’s visited with so far. His goal is to have the panel in place and ready to start working on some recommendations by late July.
