Single-Vehicle Mishap Injures Sibley Man

November 22, 2014

(Sibley)– A single-vehicle crash Saturday near the intersection with Osceola County Road L32 and Highway Nine injured a Sibley man.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office says 90-year-old Richard Harberts of Sibley was westbound on Highway nine when his vehicle went off on the shoulder. Authorities say Harberts then over-corrected. The vehicle spun around and went into the north ditch, striking a fence before coming to rest in a corn field.

Harberts was taken by ambulance to Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley with incapacitating injuries.

Five thousand dollars in damage was estimated to a 2003 Buick he was driving, with about 500-dollars in damage to the fence.

The mishap took place shortly after 4:00 p.m.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Sibley Fire and Rescue.
