(Sibley)– Cellular devices are no longer permissible in school buildings at Sibley-Ocheyedan. The school board voted Monday to approve the ban. It stems from issues the district has been having with harassment on the social media app “Yik Yak”. An active investigation into a recent incident is currently underway by the Sibley-Ocheyedan School District and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. The ban includes smart phones, tablets and smart watches.
Superintendent James Craig told news partner KTIV while cyberbullying is the main factor behind the ban, there’s another reason for it as well…
Students caught with the devices will be given three strikes, with the third resulting in possible expulsion. Medical exemptions will be allowed.
