(Primghar)– A mishap involving a school bus Monday in O’Brien county sent the driver of the bus and a passenger to the hospital.
The Iowa State Patrol says the bus was southbound on Roosevelt Avenue when the driver, 72-year-old Charles Bruns of Primghar, was distracted by some students. Authorities say he drove too close to the right shoulder of the roadway and the wheels dropped into the ditch. Troopers say Bruns then over-corrected, causing the bus to swerve sideways, overturning on its right side.
Bruns and a passenger, 11-year-old Shelby Case, were taken by ambulance to Baum Harmon Hospital in Primghar. Bruns was treated for non-incapacitating injuries; Case was checked for possible injuries.
Authorities say 52 kids plus the driver were on board.
The 1996 International school bus owned by the South O’Brien School District sustained an estimated one thousand dollars in damage.
