(Spencer)– A single-vehicle rollover Tuesday near Dickens sent one man to the hospital and another to jail.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it received a call shortly after 6:00 p.m. regarding a rollover in the 2800 block of third street in Dickens.
Upon arriving deputies found a man trapped in the vehicle. He was identified as Ronald Moriarty, who was taken to Spencer Hospital and was later life-flighted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Upon further investigation, authorities determined the driver, 45-year-old Thomas Carney of Spencer, had fled the scene and was hiding at an abandoned farm site.
Deputies located Carney a short time later. He was placed under arrest and charged with operating while intoxicated, driving while suspended, no proof of insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, burglary in the second degree and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Carney was booked into the Dickinson county jail.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Dickens Fire Department and Spencer Emergency Response.
