(Milford)– A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held this Sunday on the new playground at Florence Park in Milford. Jason Simpson serves on the Milford Parks Board. He tells KUOO news the new play equipment is all-inclusive with a number of special safety features…
“I went out there and walked across the play surface and it’s like being on a little trampoline. It was really bouncy. They did a nice job of matching the pour and play surface right up the all inclusive ramps so that people with disabilities that are in a wheelchair can wheel across the surface, they can wheel right up onto the playground. There’s a merry-go-round for a wheelchair person if they want. We’ve got a grass mound on there that when I drove by the kids are all over the grass mound, and a zip line. I road the zip line myself. It was pretty fun!”
Simpson says a lot of meticulous planning went into the project and he says they’re excited to see it come to fruition…
“Yeah, there was many meetings behind this, many designs that we looked at that we kicked back, and then we finally narrowed it down to this one type of set up that we wanted to go with. I’ve heard from past Park Board members that said hey, you guys did a great job on this. So we got the approval of them, too.”
Now, he says, they’ll be embarking on the final phase of improvements at Florence Park, which includes a new Veteran’s Memorial. Simpson says they’ll be unveiling information on that as well during Sunday’s event…
“We’re also going to take questions from anybody that wants to ask questions about our Veteran’s Memorial Plaza that is a project that will be coming up in the future and we can show you exactly where that’s going in the park.”
Sunday’s ribbon cutting begins at 11:30 am at Florence Park in Milford. The event will also include a dedication of the Blue Star Memorial at Florence Park, and the Milford Commercial Club will serve free hot dogs and chips in the shelter house immediately following the ribbon cutting and dedication.
