(Spirit Lake)– Neighbors concerned over any possible future plans by the city of Spirit Lake to extend 23rd Street between Hill and Jackson Avenues were at Tuesday’s city council meeting wanting firm answers. They didn’t get any.
Councilman Clyde Ihrke addressed the crowd, saying the city has no immediate plans to extend the street, but couldn’t rule out in the future.
Councilman Steve Balm said the city purchased a house and property in the area of 23rd Street and Hill Avenue to allow it to have the option to extend the street or seek other options, such as a bike trail, sidewalk, or do nothing at all.
Councilman Kevin Bice questioned the wisdom of buying the house should the decision be made to do nothing at all with the right-of-way.
After further discussion, the council voted unanimously to have lot lines surveyed along the entire 23rd Street right-of-way between Hill and Jackson Avenues.
