(Spirit Lake)– The requests for absentee ballots so far for next month’s election is pretty much on par with previous elections in Dickinson county. That word from County Auditor Nancy Reiman. Reiman says as of Monday morning, her office had 704 absentee voters…compared with 645 on the same day in the 2000 election.
Auditors in some parts of the state are reporting much higher than usual requests for absentee ballots. Officials say it’s due in part to request forms that are being distributed by the major political parties. Such forms have been mailed out locally atleast two times now. If you receive one, you should remember that voting absentee is strictly an option…and that if you’re not interested, you should throw it away. Reiman says some residents getting them think they’re being sent out by their local County Auditor Office. She says they have nothing to do with it.
By the way, the deadline to vote absentee is November 2nd. Absentee ballots are available by sending a written request to your local County Auditor, by filling out one of the previously mentioned forms, or simply by stopping your local County Auditor’s Office.
The last day to register for the November General Election is Saturday, October 26th.
