(Arnolds Park)– Here’s another sign that spring can’t be too far off: registration is underway for Walleye Weekend. Kiley Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says this will mark the 40th year for the event…
“And you know what means: $40,000 is the grand prize for catching one of the tagged walleye that weekend, which is crazy. So if you haven’t registered yet, registration is now open so you can register online at OkobojiChamber.com. We’ll make more announcements soon on when in-person registration will be open at the local bait shops and of course at the Chamber of Commerce. But again this is an awesome thing. We usually give a huge chunk of change to something to do with fishing and angling in the area. So it’s good to know you sign up for this tournament you could win $40,000 and then, you know, the last five years we’ve given at least $20,000 to the local community with angling as the purpose.”
Zankowski says you can also sign up for the extended contest again this year…
“Last year we didn’t have any caught but two years ago we had three caught and not a single person was registered. They missed out on like a total in $7,000 of prizes. So I encourage anyone if you plan to fish at any point in time in the Iowa Great Lakes, get registered.”
