(Spencer)– Those warm temperatures have caused all that snow we received over the last month or so to quickly melt. That, in turn, is causing flood concerns along several area rivers.
The National Weather Service in Sioux Falls has issued flood warnings for portions of the Rock River near Rock Rapids; the Floyd River near Sheldon and Alton; and the Little Sioux River near Spencer.
Minor to moderate flooding is expected in those areas over the next several days.
In Spencer, the Little Sioux is expected to rise above flood stage around 4:00 p.m. today (Monday 3/12). The river is expected to crest around 10.9 feet around 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (3/13). Flood stage in Spencer is 10 feet.
Flood warnings have also been issued for several locations along the Des Moines River, where minor to moderate flooding is also expected.
The weather service says any additional precipitation we receive will have an impact on the flooding.
