Pursuit Results In Charges Against Wahpeton Man

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Charges have been filed against a Wahpeton man in connection with a low-speed pursuit early this past Sunday.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle driven by 50-year-old Brian Sunner after noticing it going over the center line several times. Authorities say Sunner was northbound at the time on 213th Avenue. They say he then turned eastbound onto Highway 86, then turned north onto the access road near the new Lutheran church in West Okoboji.

Authorities say Sunner still refused to stop and continued north to a cul de sac, back to the church, through a snow-covered field, then back to Highway 86 where the vehicle became disabled in a ditch.

Authorities say Sunner resisted arrest and was tazed. He was eventually taken into custody and was booked into the Dickinson county jail on charges of reckless driving…a simple misdemeanor; eluding…a serious misdemeanor; and operating while intoxicated…third offense…a class “D” felony.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Arnolds Park and Okoboji Police Departments.
