(Everly)– A pursuit early Sunday in Everly resulted in charges against an Everly man.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says it all started shortly before 1:00 a.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation. Authorities say the driver refused to pull over and a pursuit ensued.
The driver fled the vehicle near the Wilson Street Apartments in Everly. The deputy chased the suspect, identified as Tony Compton, on foot into an apartment. Compton was eventually found in an upstairs bedroom closet.
He was taken into custody and charged with speeding, no proof of insurance, no driver’s license, failure to obey a stop sign and interference with official acts…all simple misdemeanors.
Compton was also charged with eluding…a serious misdemeanor; operating while intoxicated…first offense…a serious misdemeanor; and criminal mischief…an aggravated misdemeanor.
Compton was booked into the Clay county jail.
