Veterans and the Public are welcome to attend a Program at the Sami Center on Thursday. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The public is invited to attend a Veterans Day program at Spirit Lake High School. Commander Denny Perry of the American Legion Timpe Post 23 explains. “The Spirit Lake High School and the Middle School have invited all Veterans and the public to attend a program honoring Veterans in the area. The program begins at 9 am, November 11, Veterans Day. All Veterans and the public are encouraged to come and help honor our Veterans on this very important day.”
He adds that guest speakers will highlight the program. “The Colors will be presented by the VFW and the American Legion. They’ll have the Pledge of Allegiance and the Star Spangled Banner to start the program. I’ll have a few work to thank them for doing this program for us, and then Terry Bruinsma, Middle School Principal, will be giving a brief history of Veterans Day, and this year, we have a speaker that’s going to come in. He’s a young man who has been serving in Afghanistan, and he’s going to give us his view of what it’s like to be a Veteran. The 8th grade has done its essays again. Of course, we’ll hear from the band and the Meistersingers, the Music Department at Spirit Lake High School. We’ll finish the program with Taps and then we’ll retire the Colors, and for all the Veterans that are going to be there, there will be coffee and cookies in the Black Box for them after the program.”
The program will start at 9 o’clock Thursday morning at the Sami Center.
