Police Taser Pitt Bull After Being Attacked

November 22, 2014

(Spencer)– A Spencer woman faces charges and her mixed Pitt Bull breed dog had to be tasered after it attacked two police officers Wednesday.

Spencer police say they were called to a complaint of dogs running loose in the area of East Third Street and First Avenue East around 11:30 a.m. An officer arrived in the area and upon returning to his squad car was attacked by one of the dogs, which bit him on the right arm, breaking through his coat and skin.

A second officer arrived and was attacked by the same dog. That officer deployed a taser on the dog, stopping the attack. The dog retreated to a residence at 130 East Third Street where officers made contact with its owner, 32-year-old Ronalee Mortimore of Spencer. The dog was secured and placed in quarantine.

Mortimore was charged with allowing a dog to be at-large and two counts of allowing an animal nuisance. She was cited into court.

The officer that was bitten was treated and released.
