(Okoboji)– The Pearson Lakes Art Center has been awarded a 2,900-dollar grant through the Iowa Arts Council.
Andrea Tonsfeldt, Performing Arts Director at the PLAC, tells KUOO news the grant will be used for a three-day residency program with the San Francisco horn band “Lydia Pense and Cold Blood”.
Tonsfeldt says the program will involve the Okoboji, Spirit Lake and Harris-Lake Park High School jazz bands as well as the Iowa Lakes Community College jazz band. The residency program will be held May 6th-8th, 2008 and will feature a public concert on the third day. Over 100 area music students are expected to participate.
The Pearson Lakes Art Center’s application was one of only 16 to receive funding out of 66 applications submitted to the Iowa Arts Council this round.
It’s the first major grant the Pearson Lakes Art Center’s Performing Arts Department has received since its inception in 2002.
