OKOBOJI– Parks Marina, located on East Lake in Okoboji, Iowa, is once again teaming up with Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO) in Dickinson County as part of its annual Boatload of Toys fundraiser, happening now through Dec. 11.
A much-anticipated fundraising event, Boatload of Toys encourages community members to bring in new, unwrapped toys to the Marina, all of which are directly distributed through UDMO to families in need over the holiday season. Since 2008, the Boatload of Toys event has accumulated over $42,000 worth of toys donated, with last year’s donation topping $6,800 worth.
UDMO’s mission, according to their website, is a dedication to helping build stronger communities by addressing the effects of poverty on individuals and families.
One of 18 Community Action Agencies serving Iowans since 1965, UDMO provides a helping hand during times of crisis, aiding individuals, families and children as they get back on their feet, with staff members working diligently to provide continued support while encouraging families to achieve self-sufficiency, according to their website.
Those who bring in donations by Dec. 11 will receive a 20% off shopping spree, valid for water toys at Parks Marina, Barefoot gear and shopping at West Boutique and Palm at the Park. Donations can be dropped off at Parks Marina in Okoboji or Sioux Falls, Okoboji Boat Works, or Palm at the Park in the Central Emporium.
