(Graettinger)– A two-vehicle collision today (Wednesday) in Palo Alto county claimed the life of a Graettinger man.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office says it took place around 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of 460th Avenue and 300th Street.
Authorities say 20-year-old Brad Hansen of Wallingford was driving a 2002 Chevrolet southbound on 460th Avenue and 50-year-old James Peterson of Graettinger was driving a 1997 Chevrolet eastbound when the two collided in the intersection.
The Hansen vehicle traveled southeast upon impact, winding up in a corn field. The Peterson vehicle traveled to the south, coming to rest on the west shoulder of the road.
Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hansen was taken by ambulance to Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. The nature of his injuries wasn’t immediately known.
Both vehicles were totaled.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Emmetsburg Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, Emmetsburg and Graettinger ambulance crews and the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Reserves.
Authorities say the mishap remains under investigation.
