Palo Alto County Awarded Grant For River Clean-up Project

November 22, 2014

(Ruthven)– The Palo Alto County Conservation Board has been awarded a CLEAN Grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to clean up the Des Moines River. The grant is funded by the REAP Program.

The Palo Alto County Conservation Board is planning a special river clean up in conjunction with June being designated as “National Rivers Month”.

The event will be held June 30th with canoes leaving from the Graettinger river bridge on county road B14. Participants will collect garbage, conduct water testing and learn about conservation practices.

The event will conclude around 4:30 p.m. at the Basswood Recreation Area along Highway 18 on the west side of Emmetsburg. Brian Soenen, IOWATER Coordinator, will give a presentation on water quality issues and actions.

The Palo Alto County Conservation Board has a limited number of canoes available for use free of charge.

All participants MUST register, even if they’re bringing their own canoe.
