(Okoboji)– Water rates may be about to take another big jump in Okoboji…on top of a previous increase approved late last year.
With that increase, the base rate went from 20-dollars per quarter to 24. The council Tuesday approved the first reading of an ordinance that would raise that to 44-dollars per quarter.
City Administrator Dennis Daly says the council will hold a second reading of the proposed increase at its April meeting.
Daly says this increase would help fund a water main project on the city’s north side.
The increase approved late last year will help fund an expansion and upgrade of the Central Water System treatment plant.
In other business, the council approved a temporary conditional use permit that will allow up to 350 campers at the former Driving Range this coming August 22nd and 23rd for a special event the Boy Scouts will be putting on. It’s expected to bring more than a thousand Boy Scouts to the lakes area.
The council also approved a change in the speed limit on a portion of Stakeout Road…lowering it to 35 miles-per-hour for the road’s entire route within city limits.
