Okoboji Resident sets Guiness World Record for Fastest Mile with a Stroller

March 14, 2022 Becky Thoreson

An Okoboji resident has set a World Record. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

Taylor Huseman, owner of The Okoboji Cyclist, has set a Guiness World Record for the Fastest Mile While Pushing a Stroller.

A dedicated athlete, useman says he discovered that such an award existed following the birth of his daughter, Holland. “As soon as she was born, you know, I needed to be able to get out and run just for sanity reasons, and so I’d take her along and figured out, like, oh yeah, we could put you in the stroller and run. Then, just kind of on a whim, we were exploring it, because I was like, man, it’s very difficult to run with a stroller, I wonder how fast people have run. So, we just started looking up records, and I was like, I wonder what the fastest mile is, so I just punched that in, and it was actually some guy in Colorado that had just set it. Then we just continued to run, and so we kind of kept an eye on it, and we’re like, hmm, I wonder if that’s achievable, and then this past November, figured out the whole process on everything and what needed to be done. We put the application in and we got the approval 6 or 7 weeks later.”

He notes that the record was set in California. “We completed it in 4 minutes and 41 seconds. The record to beat was 4 minutes and 57 seconds. There’s all these rules that you’ve got to follow, like you have to have 3 wheels of the stroller on the ground at all times, and you always have to be pushing the stroller, you can’t lose contact and push it across the line.”

He adds that he hopes to best his own time in the Lakes Area this summer:

“We’ll hopefully do it again at the Okoboji Home Track Meet. We’re looking to bring that time down a little bit.”
