Okoboji Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy Program helps Families in need with Project Christmas

The Okoboji Foundation’s Youth in Philanthropy group have helped brighten the holidays for children in need.

President Mindy Gress says the funds are provided by an anonymous donor. “We call this program Project Christmas. For the last several years, we’ve had an anonymous donor to the Foundation provide funds that are to be used by Youth in P students to adopt some children. So, we work with one of the area schools and with Kaden’s Kloset and they gave us the names of 30 children that were in need for things during the Christmas Season. So, each of the students got some money that they got to go out and then spend on the student that they chose off of our Project Christmas Tree.”

She notes that the youth group will continue their philanthropic journey at their February meeting which will be held at the Iowa Rock ‘n Roll Museum. “Within our goal of Youth in Philanthropy, it’s really to give our students a well-rounded view of the non profits and philanthropy in our area. So, each of our meetings throughout the year, we meet monthly from October through April, so they get to spend about the first ten minutes of the meeting about that non profit and what their mission is and how they provide services within our Iowa Great Lakes region.”
