Okoboji Council Approves Hwy 71 Agreement

March 09, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– The Okoboji City Council Tuesday evening approved a pre-construction agreement for the Highway 71 re-surfacing project. City Administrator Michael Meyers says some beautification with some pavers and sod is also a major part of the project from north of the bridge to Stakeout Road…

Shane Tymkowicz, Assistant District Engineer with the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office, was also at Tuesday evening’s meeting. He gave an update on some revisions that were made in staging the project based on concerns from the city, businesses and other entities along the route…

Tymkowicz says emergency vehicles will be allowed to cross the causeway while construction is underway, but he said there will be a time when that will not be possible when actual paving is going on.

Tymkowicz says they’ll now be going to the city of Arnolds Park seeking approval of a similar pre-construction agreement…

Tymkowicz says the overall project will still be extended over the next couple of years…

Tymkowicz adds the general scope of the project hasn’t changed.
