Northwest Iowa Woman Arrested On Two Counts Of Child Endangerment

November 18, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Orange City)– A Sioux county woman was taken into custody this past Sunday on two counts of child endangerment causing serious injury.

The Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Christina Fivecoate-Champion was arrested following an investigation after an Orange City hospital contacted them about an 11 month-old child who was brought there with a dislocated elbow. A further examination revealed several other fractures in the child’s arm.

Fivecoate-Champion, the child’s mother, initially stated the child fell in a crib. However a more detailed medical evaluation performed at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls revealed the additional injuries to the child had occurred within prior weeks to the dislocated elbow, indicating a pattern of abuse.

The Iowa Department of Human Services has placed the child in foster care.
