No Injuries Reported In Structure Fire On North Side Of Little Spirit Lake

January 24, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– No injuries were reported Sunday evening in a structure fire on the north side of Little Spirit Lake, just south of the Minnesota border. Spirit Lake Fire Chief Pat Daly says firefighters were called to 10095 237th Avenue around 7:15 pm…

“We had a garage on fire and it was attached to the house. First engine on, we had a garage that was totally engulfed. The guys, they grabbed the lines, pulled them, they knocked it down quick. We were afraid it got into the attic, so we called Superior for some water and Arnolds Park for some water. With Arnolds Park we ended up with some manpower to help us overhaul the house. The fire did stay to the garage area.”

Daly says the occupants of the house were home at the time and managed to get out safely…

“The garage is pretty much a total loss. The house had a little smoke damage, but we also opened up a couple ceilings and a couple walls to make sure that we didn’t have anything inside the house.”

Daly says the cause of the fire as of now is uncertain. He says they’ll be contacting the State Fire Marshal later today (Mon.)…

“They had a dog kennel right there in the corner of the garage that went outside. We’re thinking it started right there, right around the kennel.”

Firefighters were on the scene nearly three hours. The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office and Dickinson County Emergency Management assisted.
