New District Associate Judge Appointed

October 08, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Sioux City)– A new district associate judge has been appointed by the district court judges of District 3. Kristal Phillips of Holstein will fill the position created by the upcoming retirement of Associate Juvenile Judge Mary Timko. She’ll be stepping down November 11th.

Phillips was among nine people who applied to the Buena Vista, Cherokee, Crawford, Ida and Woodbury county magistrate nominating commission.

District associate judges hear serious and aggravated misdemeanor cases, small claims, hospitalization and juvenile cases and civil suits for judgment up to $10,000. District associate judges stand for a retention election a year after their appointment and at the end of their six-year term.
