(Sioux City)– A Sioux City judge is the new Chief Judge of the 3rd Judicial District.
Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice Marsha Ternus named Duane E. Hoffmeyer of Sioux City the Chief Judge for the judicial district that covers 16 counties in northwest Iowa, including Dickinson.
Hoffmeyer succeeds Judge Michael Walsh, who will retire at the end of the year.
Hoffmeyer was a private practice attorney in Sioux City before he was appointed to the bench in January 2001. He will supervise judicial officers and the more than 200 court employees in the district. Hoffmeyer will also continue to preside over cases.
The 3rd Judicial District has an annual budget of nearly 16 million dollars and saw more than 11,700 cases filed last year.
