(Burnsville, Mn.)– Observing holiday lights from your car is a great way to get into the holiday spirit, but officials say it can also be extremely dangerous if you’re not careful.
Officials with Triple A of Minnesota offer several tips for staying safe. They say it’s important for everyone in the vehicle to remain buckled up; drivers need to stay focused on the road while the vehicle is in motion; constantly scan the area for pedestrians, bicyclists and young children; pull over if you need to check a map, navigation system or take pictures, or delegate those tasks to a passenger. And if you’re going to get out of your vehicle, make sure you are wearing light colored, reflective clothing to ensure motorists can easily see you.
Officials add that if you visit a drive-thru event and are asked to turn off your lights, to remember to turn them back on when you exit the attraction.
