(Milford)– The city of Milford is taking economic development into its own hands.
City Administrator Brian Reed told the city council Monday the Milford Development Corporation has been re-established. The group currently consists of five members and may soon grow to six. Reed told the council the Milford Development Corporation has had two meetings recently and is now applying for non-profit status.
The Milford Economic Development Corporation was originally founded in 1972 but has been dormant for atleast the last five years or so.
Reed says the Milford Economic Development Corporation will focus its efforts on community development including commercial, industrial and housing.
Reed says the decision to resurrect the Milford Development Corporation was the result of a business that was looking at locating in Milford. He says the city will continue its involvement with the Corridor of Opportunity for now atleast.
Reed told the city council Monday a top priority of the Milford Economic Development Corporation is to find an area in the city that would be appropriate for an industrial park. He says two or three potential sites have already been identified, but declined to say where they’re at. The council approved a request for funding from the Milford Economic Development Corporation for funds to conduct a feasibility study on the possible sites. The money will come from 40-thousand dollars ear-marked in the city’s budget for economic development.
