Milford Council Votes To Oppose County Culvert Project

November 22, 2014

(Milford)– The Milford city council took official action Monday evening opposing Dickinson county’s plans to install additional culverts at sixth street and Mill Creek.

The board of supervisors decided earlier this winter to move forward with the project as part of a longer-term effort to lower levels of West Lake Okoboji faster during times of high water.

Under the proposal, the county would foot the entire bill of the culvert project, which has an estimated cost of 125-thousand dollars. One person who spoke at Monday evening’s meeting said the county could better spend that money elsewhere. But County Engineer Dan Eckert told the council the project is intended to serve a couple of other purposes as well, including drainage and grade of the road.
