(Milford)– The Milford City Council Monday held the first reading of a revised zoning ordinance pertaining to storage buildings along Highway 71. Currently, the structures are allowed under special exemption. The proposed change would allow them as a permitted use as long as they are atleast 150 feet away from highway right-of-way. The council had previously sent the proposed ordinance back to the Planning and Zoning Commission saying they wanted the buildings screened. But the P & Z sent it back to the council saying the 150 foot setback should make any screening unnecessary. A second reading of the proposed ordinance will be held at the next council meeting.
The Milford City Council also Monday approved a Planning and Zoning Commission recommendation to temporarily ban signs along the highway. City Administrator Brian Reed says there are concerns over the size and number of signs on parcels of property. He says the P & Z wants to review the present ordinance along with ones from other cities. Reed hopes to the P & Z will have a recommendation to the council in 60 days.
