Milford City Council Has A Vacancy

November 09, 2021 Steve Schwaller

(Milford)– The Milford City Council has a vacancy. They voted Monday evening to accept the resignation of Aaron Gebhart. Gebhart announced he’s moving from the community. His resignation was effective at the end of last (Mon.) evening’s meeting.

Gebhart’s term on the council began January 1st, 2020. It expires December 31st, 2023. The council didn’t indicate how they intend to fill the seat, either by appointment or special election. They’ll talk about that further at a future meeting.

On another matter, the council took no action on a revised zoning ordinance that would effectively no longer subject educational facilities to special exception use requirements. A neighbor of the elementary school again spoke in opposition to the proposal, saying plans by the school could impact their property values. Superintendent Todd Abrahamson told the council the additional requirements are detrimental to the school district, which is dealing with increasing enrollment and crowded facilities. The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission recently had a deadlock two-to-two vote on the matter after it was kicked back to them for a recommendation. Council members tabled action on the matter Monday evening after the City Attorney suggested they hold off until there’s a full council present. One councilman, Jason Eckard, was absent Monday evening.
