Meals On Wheels Expects To See Even More Demand Locally As We Head Into 2022

(Spirit Lake)– The person that oversees a program in Dickinson county that ensures the home bound elderly population gets a nutritious meal on a regular basis says the demand for their services is only expected to increase as we head into the new year. Angela Kofoot oversees the Meals on Wheels program for the Voluntary Action Center in Dickinson county. She tells KUOO news the numbers to many may be surprising…

“Well back in 2019 the last year that we’ve got survey results, 34 percent of Dickinson county residents were over the age of 60, which is the age that qualifies you for Meals on Wheels, and that number is unquestionably rising. We will serve about 8,000 meals this year to our homebound seniors and of those 8,000 meals, over 50 percent are free of charge based on our client’s income.”

Kofoot says they are once again this year participating in a national program that helps provides funds for Meals on Wheels…

“VAC started participating in the Subaru Share The Love Event a few years ago and it became one of our biggest fundraisers every year now.”
