Main Street Iowa Program Awarded Funding

November 22, 2014

(Washington, D.C.)– A program that assists communities in maintaining the integrity of historic downtown areas is getting a financial boost.

U-S Senator Tom Harkin says he’s secured 800-thousand dollars for the Main Street Iowa program.

The program assists in the restoration of historic downtown areas and in the development of affordable housing above downtown storefronts.

Grants are competitively awarded to small communities by the Iowa Department of Economic Development.

Spencer is involved in the Main Street Iowa program; Spirit Lake is considering it.
