(Spirit Lake)– Negotiations between Dickinson County and the city of Milford over the Lower Gar Outlet continue, but they may be about to hit a stumbling block. The Board of Supervisors today (Tues.) expressed willingness to continue talks over several key issues brought to the forefront by the city. They include construction of a bridge instead of culverts, along with the provision for a walkway on the structure. However the supervisors today (Tues.) said they would not be willing to indemnify the city of any liability that might be associated with the project, something the city was requesting. Supervisor Tim Fairchild added that when it comes to the walkway, some other funding possibilities should be looked at…
The preliminary estimated cost for a bridge was put in the neighborhood of $1 million to $2.5 million. The supervisors were also receptive to extending a maintenance agreement on the bridge out to 15 years, adding their ultimate goal would be for the city of Milford to annex that area sometime in the future. The supervisors directed Assistant County Attorney Steve Goodlow to further negotiate those items with the city.
