Local Volunteers Honored In Governor’s Volunteer Award Program

(Storm Lake)– 11 individuals and two groups from Dickinson county were recognized by the Governor’s Volunteer Award Program at a ceremony Wednesday at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.

The program was established in 1982 to honor and recognize volunteers for the commitment, service and time they contribute to Iowa’s government agencies and non-profit organizations. More than 600 volunteers were selected this year.

Award recipients from Dickinson county include Karen Baker, Lauri Carlson, Jodi Smith and Diane Zemple, nominated by the Department of Inspection and Appeals; Jack Lalone, nominated by the Iowa League of Cities; Joan McCulloch, nominated by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service; Tom Reuland, nominated by the Iowa Department of Education; Becky Schroeder, nominated by the Voluntary Action Center; Betsy Tonsfeldt, nominated by Priority One; Anna Voss, nominated by the Department of Public Health; Erwin Wackerbarth, nominated by the Department of Natural Resources; and the Okoboji Community Schools FFA and Spirit Lake Student Council, nominated by the Department of Transportation.

The Governor’s Award program is coordinated by the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service and the Governor’s Office.
