(Des Moines)– The Iowa Finance Authority has awarded more than $9 million in grants to 27 local housing trust funds to support housing initiatives. The awards were made available through the Local Housing Trust Fund program and are expected to assist more than 2,100 families.
Locally, the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund will receive a little more than $390,000. The agency serves Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties. The Homeward Trust Fund will get a little more than $369,000. That agency serves Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto and Pocahontas counties in our area.
The State Housing Trust Fund was created by the Iowa Legislature in 2003. It helps ensure safe and affordable housing through the Local Housing Trust Fund program and the Project-Based Housing Program which aids in the development of affordable single-family and multifamily housing.
