Local Biorefinery Awarded $600,000 Federal Loan

November 22, 2014

(Heron Lake, Mn.)– A southwest Minnesota biorefinery is the recipient of a 600-thousand dollar loan from the U-S Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development program.

Heron Lake BioEnergy will use the 10-year, no-interest loan for partial financing for equipment at the new 50 million gallon a year fuel-grade ethanol plant near Heron Lake.

The plant employs 39 full-time employees with estimated started wages ranging from 10 dollar to 14 dollars per hour.

Jackson-based Federated Rural Electric Association applied for the loan on behalf of Heron Lake BioEnergy, which hired the rural electric cooperative to build the plant’s electrical substation.
