(Des Moines)– The local author of a book intended to increase awareness over the possibility of agro-terrorism will be the featured speaker at a writing workshop March 29th in Des Moines.
Kate Iola of Hartley, author of “Deadstock”, will make a presentation at the annual meeting of the American Agricultural Editors Association and the Livestock Publications Council.
In her book, a fictional villain triggers foot and mouth disease in U-S livestock in order to make money in the livestock markets.
While it may seem a bit far-fetched, FBI Special Agent David Cudmore, a Weapons of Mass Destruction Specialist in the Kansas City FBI field office, says attacking agriculture has been a long-time goal of Al Qaeda. He says they documentation the terrorist organization has been contemplating such an attack for quite some time already.
Iola has gained considerable notoriety for her book. She’s been the keynote speaker at numerous seminars and events, such as the Kansas State Journalism Conference; American Dairy Business Association and the Spencer Book Club…among others.
Iola says it’s important everyone knows just how vulnerable our food supply is and what needs to be done to protect it.
