(Emmetsburg)– Funds left over from Tanya Brown’s visit to Emmetsburg last spring have been distributed to four different groups in the region that fight domestic violence.
Tanya Brown spoke to some 800 people when she appeared in late April. Brown re-dedicated her life to educating others to stamp out domestic violence after the murder of her sister, Nicole Brown Simpson.
Shayla Thompson, President of the Iowa Lakes Community College Child Care Club, says they had funds left over once their expenses for bringing in Brown were covered. She says that allowed them to contribute 1,200-dollars to the Centers Against Assault and Sexual Assault; 200-dollars went to the Family Crisis Center of North Iowa in Algona; 175-dollars was donated to the Family Crisis Center of Northwest Iowa in Sioux Center; and 200-dollars went to counseling services at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Thompson says some of the left-over money was also used to make video tape copies of Brown’s presentation.
Thompson added the Child Care Club will continue it’s involvement in domestic violence prevention and awareness.
