(Des Moines)– A lakes area teen received statewide recognition Thursday during a ceremony in Des Moines. Calvin Grosvenor was presented with the Governor’s Lifesaving Award by Stephan Bayens, Commissioner of the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Grosvenor was honored for saving the life of a fellow scuba diver during an incident on May 28th 2020 while diving in West Lake Okoboji…
“During the dive his fellow diver suffered a significant medical issue 27 feet below the surface of the water. Calvin acted quickly to swap their air regulators and deliver a much needed injection of air to the distressed diver. Calvin then swam the unconscious individual that 27 feet to the surface and then another 50 yards to the nearest dock. Calvin pulled the man onto the dock, began CPR, and called for emergency services. Once emergency services arrived, a pulse was detected and a life was saved. Calvin’s heroic actions are certainly worthy of the Governor’s Lifesaving Award. Please join me in congratulating Calvin.”
