(Des Moines)– Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey has appointed a Lake Park woman to a vacancy on the 11 member State Soil Conservation Committee.
Susan Vance Hjelm of Lake Park will represent northwest Iowa on the committee, which has representatives from each area of the state.
The State Soil Conservation Committee was established in 1939 as part of the Iowa Conservation Districts law, which established Iowa’s 100 soil and water conservation districts. The board serves as a policy making board to the Iowa Department of Agriculture’s Division of Soil Conservation and makes budget recommendations annually.
