(Des Moines)– Iowa Senate President Jack Kibbie has an idea to get more drivers to buy more ethanol at the gas pumps–get rid of the ID stickers.
The Emmetsburg democrat thinks if the identification stickers were removed from the E10 blend, more drivers, especially those from out-of-state, would fill up with the corn-based fuel.
Kibbie says his bill would apply only to E10, which is ten percent ethanol, and not to other fuels, including E85 and biodiesel.
The decision to remove the label would be up to the business.
According to Kibbie, E10 accounts for 73 percent of gasoline sales in Iowa. That hasn’t changed in the past few years.
The bill could be debated in the senate next week.
