(Jackson, Mn.)- City and JCC School District officials met in a joint session Monday evening to talk about the pool and its future. At the meeting, the school provided a questionnaire and school and city officials split into two small groups with each other to try and answer questions like, “is having a pool important to Jackson?”
School officials provided estimates to fix up the facility, which is not up to safety code. Superintendent Barry Schmidt noted that to turn the pool area into a different amenity would likely cost $4-5 million, with repairs likely costing around that same ballpark.
City and school officials have had a cost sharing arrangement over about the past 40 years, which many say is outdated. City councilman Dave Cushman indicated the city may go it alone on a public pool, or a similar project, in the future. For now, both parties agreed that a detailed survey is needed to find out what the people of Jackson and JCC families want to do about a pool.
