(Jackson, Mn.)– A Jackson man faces multiple charges following an incident on Monday at an apartment in Jackson.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says an 84-year-old woman reported a man had forced his way into her apartment, duct taped her mouth shut, duct taped her wrists together and stole her cell phone and $60 in cash from her purse. The suspect then stole the woman’s 2009 Chevrolet Impala and drove to Dollar General in Jackson. Authorities say the victim was able to cut the tape off her wrists and called 911. Her car was found in the Dollar General parking lot, and upon leaving the lot, the man was pulled over. He got out of the vehicle and crawled under a pickup. He was then arrested.
The suspect was identified as 25-year-old Anthony Hemphill of Jackson. He was charged with aggravated robbery, 1st degree burglary, 5th degree assault with two prior convictions, theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing a peace officer on foot.
Hemphill appeared in court Wednesday. Bail was set at $150,000 with conditions, or $400,000 without.
